Counselling can be a scary proposition for some people
I hope that this insight into who I am can help you
Born in the Waikato, I come from a dairy farming and agricultural contracting family of 10. I now live in Tauranga with my husband and 3 sons.
Originally I was trained in tourism and travel but found a career in computing. My husband and I developed and owned a successful website design and IT business which we had to 20 years until we sold it in 2016.
However the pregnancy of my fourth child changed my life forever... Following the death of our daughter half way through my pregnancy I joined Sands and have a passion to help people who also have the agonising loss of a baby. After a Sands conference in 2011 I left with the inner yearning to help on a deeper level. This led me to studying Diploma of Counselling at the New Zealand Institute of Professional Counselling.
Since graduating I have been working as a counsellor at St Peters House, where I have been the Team Leader since October 2020. In my time there I have had the privilege of working with many people to help them with depression, anxiety, grief, illness, adhd, autism, parenting and lots more. I believe in an authentic, person centered approach to counselling. I work with a mix of therapies including Person Centered, CBT, Strengths Based, Solution Focused Therapy and more... I work with you with what issues you are facing in life at the moment.
To keep me busy I also own and run a small business called My Angel which sells cremation jewellery and urns. This business was also started from the death of my daughter and brings so much fulfillment to my life being able to help comfort people with their grief by providing a continuing bond and lasting memory of their loved one.
I am also actively involved in St John, love animals, aeroplanes, flying and travel, and I try to get some time to play musical instruments and do some craft activities.
Below is some of the training I have completed

Grief and loss can come from many areas in life, such as the loss of a life, relationship, occupation, stage in life, possession, etc. Any loss can cause many emotions, some you may be familiar with, some not. I have many years experience helping people through their loss.
Pregnancy & Infant Loss can cause mixed emotions at the time of the loss, in coming years, and during subsequent pregnancies. Having experienced my own loss, I have the empathy and understanding unique to baby loss and all that it encompasses.
